The Next Episode...

Finally I feel that I have something to write about.

Reaping what you sow

At the beginning of this year I put the idea into my friend's head that what he really wanted to do was to start a record label. He's just had his first kid with his fiance and would like to think that he could do better than work in a dry cleaners'. He'd like to make something, to build something that will last.

I've known him since college where we were in a couple of bands together. He was doing occasional work at a small studio that specialised in jazz while he was making money teaching guitar. These days we work on tracks together in the group Dirty Fire Project.

Cut to last month, and out of the blue he gets back in contact with the guy who runs the studio. A couple of conversations later and he's got the offer of a job running the studio and having its facilities at his disposal when it does not interfere with the day to day business of the existing label.

Suddenly, things are looking like they might take off. This hasn't really sunk in yet, but its looking so hopeful. We will be able to mix and record tracks to a professional standard at extremely cut rate prices while learning the practicalities of running a studio, operating the equipment and meeting lots of musicians.

Oh be still my beating eardrums. Watch this space!
